Earlier today, I was at a stop light with some random gas station on the corner. I looked over and saw a young man walking out of the gas station with a scratch off ticket in his hands. I watched him as he vigorously rubbed that metallic material off the card with a coin, eyes getting bigger, and his stance getting more excited.
.
I saw him win something. It could have been twenty bucks, it could have been two thousand. It was an odd expression on his face, something between ridiculous enthusiasm and complete disbelief. Suddenly, the passenger door of the car he was walking towards swung open and after a few seconds, a very young and very pregnant girl got out of the car and was walking towards the young man.
The light turned green.
There, in a random tedium flash of my day, those two young kids’ day, week, month, or perhaps year was made.
It reminded me that there’s hope. In a flash of a moment on any given day, something can happen that can positively affect your life and give you a look of ridiculous enthusiasm and complete disbelief. The world is a grand and mysterious smorgasbord of possibility, and that is a wonderful thing.
